The evolution of information technologies has had a significant impact on intellectual property rights. The development and enforcement of international and national laws and regulations governing copyrights in the digital environment have not kept pace with the speed of the technology. When the International Association of IT Lawyers (IAITL) held its first international conference in 2006 in Hamburg, it could never have been envisaged just how successful the programme would become as a firm 'not to be missed' date of the calendar of increasing numbers of academics and others working and researching in the key areas of law, security and privacy in IT, international trade and private law.
